Friday, March 19th was an evening of discovery, enlightenment and wonderfully inventive cuisine. Triple Base hosted a Dinner Lecture in conjunction with Michelle Blade’s solo exhibition Blow As Deep As You Want to Blow. Our special guests were chef and artist Jerome Waag (Chez Panisse and founder of OPENrestaurant), Kelly Bryson (Director of The Center for Compassion and Certified Trainer for The International Center for Nonviolent Communication), and Ignacio Valero, (Associate Professor of Humanities and Sciences at California College of the Arts).

The Dinner Lecture Series strives to illuminate the practice of the current artist(s) exhibiting in the gallery space and extend the participants’ thinking around topics related to the show. Discussions and debates are encouraged and facilitated by the convivial family style meal that coincides with the lecture that takes place in a comfortable loft apartment in the Mission District.

ABOUT OUR GUESTS

Kelly Bryson has traveled extensively around the world helping to rebuild communities with his profound knowledge in the areas of collective consciousness and viewpoints in the way of alchemy as a philosophical and spiritual discipline. He is the Director/Co-founder of the Center for Compassion, a Non Profit community organization providing education into organizations and individuals, his conflict resolutions have been used locally and internationally. Bryson maintains a private practice and is a certified trainer for The International Center for Nonviolent Communication.

Jerome Waag is a practicing artist and a chef for Chez Panisse, founded by Alice Waters. Waag started OPENrestaurant, a collective of restaurant professionals who sought to move their practice to an art space as a way to experiment with the language of their daily activities. This displacement turns the restaurant, its codes and architecture, into a medium for artistic expression which is made available to cooks, farmers, artists and activists as a way to explore issues around food and society.

Ignacio Valero is an associate professor of Humanities and Sciences at California College of the Arts. He has also taught at the University of Madrid, University of the Andes, and Xavier University of Columbia. Ignacio was formerly with the International Center for Environmental Education, CIFCA, and the United Nations environment and development programs UNEP and UNDP. He was a senior associate with the Colombian Science Foundation, deputy director of Colombia’s Environmental Protection Agency, and a member of the presidential advisory council for the writing of the new Colombian constitution.
